Annual Report 2017-18

A flick through council’s 2017-2018 annual report is a reminder that 12 months is a long time in local government.

The 144-page report, adopted by an ordinary meeting of council on November 14, provides a comprehensive account of the many and varied achievements in the past year.

Major projects ranged from completion of the new Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre at Sarina to construction works on the Sugar Bowl Mackay and the new sports precinct at CQUniversity.

Council also helped host the Sir Elton John Concert and then secured the Sugar City Sounds, as well as supporting a range of other major events.

Throw in a $108 million capital works program and Queensland Government Works for Queensland projects, and it was a massive year of activity.

Against that busy backdrop, council also managed to turn a forecast $1.1 million deficit into a $1.45 million surplus in 2017-2018.
